Navidad en el Barrio is a foundation which was established in 1972 and has continued to provide Christmas dinner’s to thousands of families in Southern California every year. Their mission is simple, which is to annually provide Christmas meals to families who are in great need and have often felt marginalized and forgotten by their community and society.
St. Malachy has taken part in this event for two years and hopes to continue working alongside of Navidad en el Barrio for years to come. This event takes place in two parts- Assembling the baskets and Distribution Day.
The school appreciates and is proud of the many hands that made this day possible. Our 8th grade students and parents took part in assembling the gift bags which took place immediately after our Annual Christmas Program on Friday, December 15th and the very next day, Saturday, December 16th, our 8th grade class helped in our drive-thru by loading all items in the cars of our families. In some cases, families needed carriers to deliver the items directly to nearby homes, which our 8th students were willing to help.
This event would not have been possible if it weren’t for the generous help of our 8th graders and parents. Thank you!
